Middle School

Welcome Letter

Welcome to a new school year. First let me share a quote  from a former teacher of mine:

“Adventure is entering into something where you’re not exactly sure what the outcome will be but adventure also has the aspect of helping us to grow and to discover our gifts and abilities and to develop perseverance.”

-Rich Obenschain Founder of LaVida

Middle school is an adventure. We will be faced with many challenges over the course of the school year. However, we must learn to face those challenges in order to mature. The staff in middle school want to see the students grow in many ways: physically, emotionally, academically and spiritually. We are here to support the students and watch them succeed. As IST staff we know that Jesus is always by our side through victories and struggles. We also know that Jesus is our strength and without him we will not flourish. Throughout this year we must trust in him to guide us through those challenges and praise him for our victories.

“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”

Philippians 1:6

We look forward to another great year of growth.

Overview

6th – 9th grade

At our school, the students make the transition from having a general teacher to subject specific teachers. The students rotate classes each day throughout our building. Middle school has specialized teachers who provide an education using 21st-century skills. The teachers focus on soft (executive) skills: respect, responsibility, integrity, initiative, community, and collaboration as well as an American standards-based curriculum. Each class seeks to implement these skills in their student’s daily lives by practicing them in each lesson. As a school, we emphasize those values in our classrooms with a Christ-centered background by implementing biblical connections in each lesson. We value the use of technology with each class as well as the importance of differentiating each lesson.
